Star Renewable Energy will support a discussion on issues relating to planning of district heating. The event detailed in the pdf draws on Star’s work to deploy 2050Ready Heating solutions in the UK and overseas over several years. As Director of Innovation until 2013, Dave Pearson was responsible for observing market trends in this new segment and positioning the main refrigeration group in their future offerings. Dave commented, there are various techniques in strategy but I was inspired by Canadian ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky who comments, “You have to skate to where the puck will be” and this characterised our view on district heating being a drive towards 2050Ready solutions. This means not using gas, not burning stuff and recognising the importance of grid balancing options and cooling sales. When one considers all that, the future looks a lot more like heat pumps. Taking that same technique forward into planning, one observes the key number in district heating evaluation is not cost of electricity, or cost of equipment but surety of heat sales and this is fundamentally aligned to the activity of planners and the environment agency. I’m looking forward to chewing over these aspects with the participants to see where these specialties play their part in our future energy systems.”
